The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (Sea Cadets) is the Navy's youth development program. Sea Cadets gives young Americans skills, knowledge, and confidence through an amazing variety of training opportunities and experiences. Sea Cadets wear Naval uniforms, work as teams in a disciplined environment, follow a chain of command, and adhere to our core values of honor, respect, commitment, and service. Sea Cadets is for young men and women aged ten through the end of high school who choose adventure, seek challenges, and want to step outside of their comfort zones.
NCBC Battalion (Naval Construction Battalion Center) in North Kingstown and Newport RI. offers two programs. The Training Ship Walter Boll, is our Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) unit for middle school students aged 10 to 13. NCBC Battalion is our US Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) unit is for ages 13 through the end of high school.
The Sea Cadet Program instills values of discipline, accountability, and teamwork in a safe environment. We give cadets a chance to step outside of their comfort zones with dynamic challenges. We help our cadets thrive with humility and confidence. We participate in the community throughout the year and earn service hours that typically meet school requirements. Through shared trainings and experiences, cadets make bonds and friendships that last a lifetime.
Cadets participate in local unit drills: typically meeting one or two weekends a month including special events based on a unit schedule.
Over time cadets earn rank based on trainings attended, online classwork, and time in rank. Attaining rank starts after cadets attend/graduate from Recruit Training or Orientation (bootcamp): a fast paced 9-day training camp focused on basic military instruction and team building.
With increased rank comes increased responsibility setting cadets along the path to leadership.
